Perioperative neurocognitive disorder (PND) is a common neurologic complication, which refers to the occurrence of cognitive decline, memory impairment, etc. during the perioperative period in patients, and the incidence rate of PND in older patients is significantly higher than that in younger patients. Changes in the structure and function of aging neurons lead to brain homeostasis instability, as evidenced by the fact that cognition, memory, attention, and motor coordination in elderly patients show significantly decreased. Stimuli such as surgery, anesthesia, and pain are more likely to lead to dysregulation of brain homeostasis in older patients, ultimately causing PND. This article provides an overview of the changes that occur in neuronal cellular senescence and, as a result, contribute to the onset of PND. |
