Postoperative gastrointestinal dysfunction (POGD) refers to a series of gastrointestinal functional disorders that occur after surgery, leading to prolonged hospital stays, significantly increased medical costs, and severely affecting patients' postoperative recovery and quality of life. Due to the unclear underlying pathophysiological mechanisms, there is currently a lack of definitive preventive and therapeutic measures. In recent years, with the promotion of the enhanced recovery after surgery concept, the prevention and treatment of POGD have become key areas of focus in clinical research. This article provides a comprehensive review of recent advances in clinical research on prevention and treatment of POGD, aiming to offer insights for optimizing perioperative anesthetic management.
