| As society and medicine advance, more individuals are able to pursue their true gender identity, leading to a significant increase in transgender and gender-diverse people. 41% of transgender and gender-diverse individuals feeling that their specific healthcare needs are not understood by healthcare providers. Recently, a panel of UK professionals with expertise in endocrinology, gender-affirmative hormones, and transgender medical education developed the peri-operative care of transgender and gender-diverse individuals: guidance for clinicians and departments. This guideline offers 15 recommendations covering perioperative airway assessment, hormone therapy management, obstetric anesthesia issues, and hospital processes to ensure the safety and dignity of transgender and gender-diverse individuals during the perioperative period. |
